Laser hair removal is the most effective solution for reducing unwanted hair. The LightSheer™ diode laser is a state-of-the-art system specially designed to reduce unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort and more reliable than other methods. The light emitted by the LightSheer™. Call KM Surgical for a complimentary consultation with our nurses or a beauty therapist.
diode laser is well absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. During the procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, long enough to heat up the hair and significantly impede the follicle's ability to re-grow. This process also treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously. Therefore, LightSheer ™ is appropriate for treating even the largest areas of the body both quickly and effectively.
An important part of the procedure is the cooling of the skin. A special contact-cooling hand piece allows your physician to treat even the most sensitive skin. It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each laser pulse while directing the laser energy to the hair root.
How does LightSheer remove hair?
Highly controlled flashes of light are selectively absorbed by hair-filled follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The absorbed light heats the hair, which damages or destroys the regrowth potential of the follicle. Some damage to surrounding tissue can occur but this can be minimised by experienced staff.
What happens during a treatment?
Treatment begins by trimming away the hair just above the skin. You may be asked to wear dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. Next, a cold gel will be spread over the treatment area. The LightSheer™ hand piece is then applied to your skin and pulses of light begin disabling your unwanted hair. When the gel is removed, much of the hair is wiped off with it. The remaining hair in the treated areas falls out over the next week or two.
What does the treatment feel like?
Each pulse of light feels like a slight sting or pinch, similar to the snap of a rubber band. No local anaesthesia is required and most people tolerate the treatment well under conditions of skin cooling.
Can all hair be treated?
LightSheer™ unique design offers you customised treatment according to your hair colour, texture and the location of body hair. Any hair with at least some pigment in it (black, brown, red and even blonde) can be treated effectively. Treatment of pale coloured or blonde hair can be disappointing.
Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects are rare. You may experience some slight reddening or local swelling at the treatment site, but this typically goes away within hours, On rare occasions, some blistering or bruising may occur, but typically resolves quickly. Also, the skin can become darker or lighter following treatment, but will generally return to normal within a few weeks. Limiting sun exposure before and after each treatment will minimise the risk of complications. Following the treatment, you can generally return to work and resume all regular activities immediately.
What kind of results should I expect?
LightSheer™ technology has been proven to create a permanent reduction in the number of regrowing hairs following each treatment in most skin types. The number of treatments required depends on several factors related to your specific kind of hair and skin. A customised treatment program will be designed for you along with an estimate of how many treatments you may need in order to meet your expectations.
