Dysport is a protein taken from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. The protein was initially used for the treatment of motor disorders and various kinds of involuntary muscular spasms, including cerebral palsy. It was further developed to treat a wide variety of neuro-muscular disorders. Dysport has been available in New Zealand for over 12 years to treat neuro-musclar disorders and was the first botulinum toxin Type A to be approved in this country for medical use. Dysport is manufactured in Britain by Ipsen Limited. Dysport is a simple, effective, non-surgical treatment that works by relaxing facial muscles, thereby reducing and smoothing frown-lines and wrinkles. Tiny amounts of Dysport are injected directly into the facial muscles underlying the frown lines. It usually take three to five small, almost painless injections for an effective treatment. Over the next few days, the muscles gradually relax. Youprobably won't notice it happening - you'll just become aware that you can't contract your frown muscles. Don't worry you will still blink normally and raise your eyebrows, you will not look unnatural. Rather, you can enjoy a more youthful appearance while maintaining a natural expression.
