Depigmentation treatment
Cosmelan® Cosmelan is a depigmentation treatment based on the inhibition of tyrosinase, a basic enzyme in the melanin formation process. Cosmelan offers a highly depigmenting effect in the correction of melanic spots, especially in the case of melasma or chloasma. Not only does this advanced treatment remove skin blemishes, but it stops blemishes from forming. Cosmelan is safe and effective for all skin types and tones Fitzpatrick I-VI and can be used all year round. What causes pigmentation? Pigmentation is the colour in your skin which is determined by melanin, a natural pigment that also determines eye and hair colour. However, pigmentation problems arise if too much melanin is produced in one area, causing darkened or brown patiches on your skin known as melasma/chloasma or hyper-pigmentation. Although melasma can affect anyone, women with darker skin tones (especially Hispanic, Asian, Indian, and Middle-Eastern) are at greatest risk. Melasma often appears at times of hormonal changes such as menopause, endocrine illnesses, and the use of contraceptives. It is more common in women of child-bearing age and when it is associated with pregnancy, it is called chloasma ("pregnancy mask") What does a treatment with Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment involve? The process consist of two parts: Clinic treatment - The first stage is applied in the clinic with a Cosmelan Mask, the client then goes home with the mask applied and removes it at home after 5-10 hours depending on skin type. The mask consits of the active ingredients, Kojic acid, Azelaic acid, Phytic acid, Ascorbic acid, Retinyl Palmitate and Titanium Dioxide. Home treatment - The second phase of the Cosmelan treatment consist of a home maintenance cream which contains depigmentation agents such as Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid and Vitamin C. ![]() |
